Every parent has the same drawer. The one you can't open without something sliding out, full of paper you cannot throw away and cannot display.
Somewhere in that pile is a drawing you actually love. Not because it's good — it isn't good — but because of one specific decision your child made. The monster has three eyes because it can see behind itself. The dog is purple because purple is the best colour. The wings are tiny and the dragon flies anyway, and when you asked about it you got a look that said obviously.
That decision is the thing worth keeping. Not the drawing — the decision.
Famous Fridge exists to take that one drawing out of the drawer and make it something you can hang on a wall, without losing the reason you loved it.
The mistake everyone else makes
There are tools now that turn a child's drawing into a polished image in about four seconds. Some are free. We've used them. They produce a beautiful dragon — proportional, symmetrical, professionally lit, and completely unrecognisable to the seven-year-old who drew it.
Because the software does what software does: it corrects. Legs of uneven length get evened up. A third eye gets quietly removed. Wings that are far too small for the body get resized to something that could plausibly fly. Every one of those corrections is an improvement, and every one of them deletes the child from her own drawing.
So a person checks every one
We use good tools — we'd be slower and worse without them — but a person looks at every finished illustration before it goes anywhere near your inbox, and asks one question:
Would the child recognise this as hers?
If the answer is no, it goes back and gets done again. Sometimes three or four times. You never see the attempts that failed that question, and you're never charged for them. That check is what the eighteen dollars buys. Everything else about this is just craft and speed.
What we won't do
- We don't want photos of your child. Drawings only. We never ask for a photograph of a child and you should never send one. It keeps the most sensitive thing out of this entirely, and it costs nobody anything.
- We don't post without asking. Nothing you send appears anywhere unless you've said yes, in writing, as a separate question. Not a checkbox buried in terms you didn't read.
- We don't invent reviews. When there are customer quotes on this site, they'll be from real customers who agreed to be quoted. Until then there aren't any, which is why you haven't seen any.
- We don't argue about refunds. If it isn't right, say so and we'll redo it or refund you. There's no form and no process. It's eighteen dollars and you're a parent — you have enough going on.
How old this is
New. We're at the beginning, doing the first drawings free to find out where the process breaks before anybody pays for it. If you're reading this early, that's what you've found — a small thing being built carefully rather than a big thing pretending to be careful.
